Rookie firefighter saves woman from fiery death

A Middletown woman is lucky to be alive thanks to a probationary firefighter.

Patricia Davies? home at 26 Washington Ave. was gutted by a fire Wednesday. After making sure her grandchildren were safely outside, the woman re-entered the burning home to investigate.

Probationary firefighter Bill Kacen arrived at the scene and retrieved Davies, dragging her body out of the house. Kacen was so quick to action that he didn?t even put on his protective gear.

?[It] wasn't the most graceful thing ? but we made it down and out the front door,? says Kacen.

Davies was reunited with her lifesaver Thursday and thanked the man.

sorry to interrupt
