(04/10/08) MONTCLAIR ? Police officers from more than a dozen state and local departments descended on Montclair State University Thursday due to a threat that was found earlier in the week.
Officers from various townships, the Essex County Prosecutor?s Office, the Passaic County Prosecutor?s Office, the Passaic County Sheriff?s Office and the New Jersey Department of Homeland Security were all on hand to increase security.
Police have confirmed the threat found Tuesday night stated that there would be a shooting on the campus Thursday. However, school representatives say the threat is not credible.
?After [a] very intensive investigation, there continues to be absolutely no evidence to confirm that the threat is credible,? says Montclair State University President Susan Cole.
Everyone who entered the campus Thursday was asked to show a school ID.
It is not known if a student is responsible for the threat. Anyone with information is urged to call Montclair State University police at 973-655-5222.
