Consulate on Wheels comes to Asbury Park

Hundreds of Mexican immigrants lined up Wednesday in Asbury Park to obtain important legal documents from the Consulate on Wheels. As part of the Consulate on Wheels program, employees from the Mexican Consulate in New York travel to different cities to help Mexican immigrants get legal documents. Passports and consulate IDs were given out by the Mexican government at Holy Spirit Catholic Church on Second Avenue. Passports are in real demand because immigrants need them to visit their homeland and open bank accounts. The documents also allow Mexican nationals to obtain birth certificates for their children born in the United States. The Consulate on Wheels program will be in Lakewood in mid-May and in Red Bank and Long Branch this summer.
