Husband accused in estranged wife's murder
A young mother is dead and her husband is in custody Friday following a bloody attack with an ax.
Authorities say police received a call around 2 a.m. that a woman was being attacked. When officers arrived at the intersection of Myrtle and Sherman streets, they found 26-year-old Louisa Chireno lying between two cars with multiple stab wounds. Police also found the woman's three children inside her apartment.
The prosecutor says a lot of evidence was found at the scene, including the suspected murder weapon - a small ax.
Police arrested Chireno's estranged husband, 32-year-old Fernando Chireno, in connection with her murder. According to police, the attack started in the victim's apartment. They say Chireno fled from her husband into the streets, where he allegedly caught and killed her.
Authorities say the victim did have a restraining order against the suspect. However, the victim's neighbors and family members say the suspect was often in the area and would attack his estranged wife.
