Catering hall's closure leaves couples scrambling

A Short Hills catering facility is abruptly closing its doors, leaving around 60 expectant brides and grooms scrambling to find accommodations for their weddings.

Short Hills Caterers left a letter on its front doors Saturday explaining that the business was closing after 46 years because of financial trouble. Bride-to-be Judy Brokaw got a similar letter in the mail Thursday and is now busy trying to make other plans for her wedding, originally scheduled for November 8.

Other venues, like Crystal Plaza in Livingston, are offering to rebook affected couples, many of whose weddings are less than a month away.

?We are going to honor their contracts,? says Allan Janoff, Crystal Plaza?s owner. ?If we have a date at Crystal Plaza, we will accommodate you here and if not, we are going to find you a location.?

Lawyers for Short Hills Caterers say clients have three months to file a claim to get their deposit back.
