Police believe drag racing may have led to a fatal accident in Jersey City early Saturday.
According to police, 17-year-old David Figueroa lost control of his 2008 Toyota Solara around 2 a.m. The car flipped off the ramp from Routes 1 and 9 onto Raymound Boulevard, striking another motorist before the car caught fire.
Both Figueroa and his front seat passenger, 17-year-old Lucas Lopez, were pronounced dead at the scene. Two backseat passengers were able to exit the vehicle and were treated for minor injuries at UMDNJ.
Police do not believe the teens were racing at the time of the accident, but shortly before. The driver was reportedly traveling at over 100 mph before he lost control of the car.
The driver of the vehicle the teens struck suffered minor injuries.
