Police: Clifton mom killed by jealous suitor

Police say a single mother of three from Clifton was killed by an obsessed man who turned the gun on himself.

Authorities say 52-year-old Daimiro Guzman, of West New York, shot 38-year-old Diana Valencia twice in the head Saturday after the two had gone out to dinner. Police say Valencia considered Guzman a friend.

Detectives say Guzman had been pursuing Valencia for more than a year and that his actions may have been sparked by jealousy.

Guzman survived the self-inflicted gun shot to the head, but is in critical condition. He will be formally charged with homicide and weapons possession upon leaving the hospital.

Valencia leaves behind 11-year-old twin daughters and a 17-year-old son. Family members say she just started her own dental lab business in Passaic.
