Standoff closes Parsippany school, day cares
(04/29/08) PARSIPPANY - A police investigation in Parsippany led to the closure of an elementary school and two day care centers Tuesday.
According to police, their investigation began at approximately 3 a.m. when a woman called and said her boyfriend, 26-year-old Maloy D. Amador, threatened her life with a gun and fired a weapon in their shared residence. Police responded, set up a perimeter and sent out a reverse-911 notification to the parents of students at Lake Parsippany Elementary School, Carousel of Learning preschool and Incare Infant Care Day Nursery.
Lake Parsippany Elementary's opening was initially delayed for two hours, but officials later closed the school for the day.
Police tried to establish communication with Amador, but were unsuccessful. As a result, they say they stormed the home and found Amador in the basement with handguns, ammunition and knives. He was taken into custody without incident.
Amador faces several charges, including kidnapping, aggravated assault and weapons possession.
