Train derails; Woodbridge neighborhood evacuated

A tanker train derailed in the Port Reading section of Woodbridge Sunday, forcing police to evacuate the area for a few hours.

Nine cars derailed near the Port Reading Post office around 5 p.m. Authorities were initially concerned hazardous chemicals the train was carrying could have leaked out.

Residents in the surrounding area were instructed to leave their homes and head to School 9. The evacuees were later permitted to return to their homes after police determined it was safe.

The train was not carrying any passengers.
