I-Team Investigates: Superintendent Severance
A huge payout coming to Keansburg School District Superintendent Barbara Trzeszkowski upon her June retirement has some at the state level calling for a criminal investigation.
Trzeszkowski is set to receive more than $185,000 for unused sick and vacation time. On top of that bonus, she will also recieve her monthly salary multiplied by years of service, which amounts to more than $556,000. Her bonuses add up to $740,926, with Trzeszkowski also qualifying for a pension of $120,000 per year.
State Assemblyman Joseph Cryan (D-20th District) believes the retirement package is ridiculous.
"This deal reeks of the insider dealing and disregard for taxpayers that has led residents to hold government in such low esteem," he says. "This is an obscene amount of money for any superintendent and is especially offensive coming from a district that depends on the state's taxpayers for the bulk of its funding."
Department of Education officials say they are examining Trzeszkowski's contract and payout.
