Dress code to go into effect at Lakewood schools
The Lakewood school board approved a measure at its meeting Wednesday to implement a dress code. Officials say the dress code is aimed at eliminating gang attire that is currently worn to schools.The only colors allowed in the dress code are white, black, blue or khaki.For boys, acceptable tops includes dress shirts, polo shirts, turtlenecks and loosely fitted shirts in white, black or blue. Pants must be dress-style or Dockers-style with no more than four regular-size pockets and worn at the waist in either khaki, black or blue. Bermuda or walking shorts that are at least mid-thigh may be worn from Sept. 1 - Nov. 1 and from April 1 to the end of the school year.Girls may wear loosely-fitted shirts with a collar, sweaters and long or short-sleeve blouses in white, black or blue. Female students can wear Capri pants, pants or dresses that are at least mid-thigh in length in khaki, black or blue. Bermuda or walking shorts that are at least mid-thigh may be worn from Sept. 1 - Nov. 1 and from April 1 to the end of the school year. Leggings are also required under shorts or skirts.
