State trooper injured in stolen vehicle chase
State police say a trooper suffered non life-threatening injuries Friday when his vehicle crashed as he headed to assist local police in a car chase.
Sgt. Stephen Jones says Trooper Jeffrey Heimbach crashed around 12:30 p.m. when he was cut off by another driver on Interstate 280.
Jones says Heimbach had his lights on and was on his way to assist Denville Township Police, who were pursuing a stolen car.
Jones says the 28-year-old Heimbach was taken University Hospital in Newark.
The suspect in the stolen car pursuit crashed in East Orange and was also taken to University Hospital. The extent of his injuries was not immediately known.
