Cops: Paterson teen stabbed 6-month-old son to death
An 18-year-old mother is accused of killing her baby boy in Paterson.
Police say Gloria Arroyo stabbed her 6-month-old son multiple times Wednesday night at her home at 147 Butler St. Officials say they found Jose Bell Jr.?s lifeless body in the home around midnight. Arroyo was found in the street with self-inflicted stab wounds, according to police.
Neighbors say they were shocked to hear Arroyo may have killed her child. They say she was a nice girl and was expected to be moving to Arizona Friday. They say she was estranged from the baby?s father.
"We heard she wanted to go out, but the baby's father was out so she stabbed the baby," says neighbor Yolanda Martinez, speculating on why Arroyo allegedly stabbed her son.
Police say Arroyo has been charged with murder and is under police custody at St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center.
A memorial for Jose has been set up in front of the Butler Street house. Friends say the father is inconsolable after the incident.
