Displaced North Brunswick residents plot next move

Almost 100 people remain homeless in North Brunswick after Tuesday's devastating fire on Dartmouth Lane.

The three-alarm blaze erupted around 9 a.m. and spread throughout the Governor's Point II apartment complex. At least one man was seriously injured trying to escape the perilous flames, which residents say spread quickly.

"We had no time," says Munawwar Haque, whose family lives across from where the fire was sparked. "Within five minutes, it was all ablaze."

Haque fears that even though his wife, son and daughter were able to escape harm, the fire may haunt them for a while.

Displaced residents are not being allowed into any of the homes affected by the fire, even units not damaged by the flames. Most residents have opted to meet with insurance agencies as they attempt to put their lives back together.

The injured resident was hospitalized after the fire and is recovering.
