Belleville police officer killed in crash

(AP) - For the third time in less than a month,a New Jersey police officer has been killed in a traffic accident. Belleville Officer Kenneth Santucci was killed and OfficerMelissa Corrado was seriously injured Saturday morning when theircruiser struck another vehicle in neighboring Nutley. The officers were responding to a call when the crash occurredjust across the Nutley-Bellville border. Santucci, who was driving, lost control of the cruiser and ithit a utility pole, ejecting him and Corrado. Santucci was taken to Clara Maass Medical Center, where he waspronounced dead a short time later. Corrado sustained serious headinjuries and was taken to University Hospital in Newark. But her injuries aren't considered life-threatening The driver of the other vehicle, identified only as a51-year-old female from Bloomfield, wasn't seriously injured.
