(AP) - With the unemployment rate at a five-yearhigh, Democrats are floating the idea of another stimulus packageof more than $50 billion. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says it's clear a second stimuluspackage is needed. The aim would be to get people back to work byrebuilding the nation's infrastructure. The plan also extends jobless benefits and provides heatingsubsidies, but it would also add to the nation's alreadynear-record deficit. The White House and Republicans in Congress say offshore gas andoil drilling and several trade bills are a better way to boost theeconomy. Democrats hope to have their new plan passed before ElectionDay, but its prospects are far from certain.
