Fallen Belleville police officer laid to rest
A Belleville police officer killed in the line of duty was laid to rest Thursday in Nutley.
Officer Kenneth Santucci was killed in a car crash while responding to a call Saturday. Authorities say Santucci's cruiser was struck by another car that had run a stop sign.
Fellow officers showered their fallen comrade with the police honors of bagpipes and gun salutes. Friends remember Santucci as a family man who was a great officer and a better friend.
Officer Melissa Corrado was in the car as well at the time of the accident, but survived.
Santucci is the third New Jersey officer killed in a car accident in the past month. He is also the first Belleville officer to die in the line of duty in 60 years.
