Blue Mass held for 2 N.J. officers killed in line of duty

A Blue Mass was held Tuesday to honor two New Jersey police officers killed in the line of duty.

The Mass was held at St. Bernard of Clairvaux Church in Bridgewater. Hundreds of officers from around the Garden State attended the Mass to pay their respects to Officer Thomas Raji, of the Perth Amboy Police Department, and Lt. Christopher Zerby, of the North Brunswick Police Department.

Both officers were honored with a 21-gun salute during the ceremony.

Zerby was killed when the car he was in crashed into a utility pole in August. He is survived by his wife and two children.

Raji died from injuries he sustained in an August crash. Raji and another officer were transporting a prisoner to the Middlesex County Jail when his cruiser was hit. The driver of the car that hit Raji was later charged with second-degree vehicular homicide and two counts of third-degree assault by auto.
