Monmouth Co. eviction officers double workload
Monmouth County eviction officers say their work has recently doubled.
Bill Burlew is one of two sheriff's officers in the county responsible for overseeing evictions. The officers accompany a locksmith, moving van and bank representative to the property on the morning of a foreclosure.
"Our job is to make sure nothing happens and nobody gets hurt," says Burlew.
Six months ago, the officers did foreclosure evictions in the county two days per week. With the recent economic downturn, the officers are booked until December at four days per week.
The number of Monmouth County homes in foreclosure has followed suit, doubling in the past year.
