A nearly 14-hour hostage situation ended peacefully Tuesday morning in Trenton.

The incident occurred at 189 Pennington Ave. According to police, Enrique Aviles, 32, grabbed his 8-year-old daughter and brought her to his current girlfriend?s house at around 7:30 p.m. Monday. Authorities say Aviles, who was armed with a pistol, held his daughter, three women and another child hostage throughout the night.

Authorities were able to convince Aviles to come out with his hands up at around 10:15 a.m. Tuesday. Shortly after he was taken into custody, the hostages walked out of the house unharmed.

Beatriz Gonzales, the 8-year-old child?s mother, says she has complained to police for years about Aviles. She says she had taken out a restraining order against him.Aviles faces several charges, including kidnapping, terroristic threats and endangering the welfare of a child.

Police say Aviles has a long history of mental illness and has been in trouble with the law before. He is undergoing psychological evaluation.
