2 men arrested in connection with Newark drive-by
Two arrests have been made following the deadly drive-by shooting in Newark Friday. The arrests were made at homes on South 14th Street and Renner Avenue in Newark.
Police confirmed that the SUV used in the shootings was recovered early Saturday morning at the Elizabeth Gardens Mall.
The two men arrested in connection with the shootings are being held on other charges.
The gunfire broke out in broad daylight during a 45-minute period Friday. The shootings took place on Ridgewood, Clinton and 18th avenues, Boyd Street and Irvine Turner Boulevard. Some fear gang initiation is the cause and are worried about the coming week.
Violent crime in Newark has decreased 40 percent in the past year, including 30 fewer murders. Officials say anonymous tips from the public have helped them to make more than 120 arrests and recover 34 guns.
Anyone with information on the shootings is asked to call 877-NWK-TIPS or 877-NWK-GUNS.
