3-vehicle crash sends 16 people to hospital

A three-vehicle collision sent 16 people to local hospitals Sunday.
According to police, the accident happened at the intersection of Ridgewood Avenue and Washington Street in Glen Ridge and involved a car, a mini van and an SUV.
Police say three infants were seriously injured, but have been upgraded from critical to stable condition at the hospital. Two of the infants are 9-month-old twins.
The car holding the infants may not have had the proper child safety seats, police say. Authorities have also speculated that there may have been as many as 14 people in the SUV, which is a Ford Expedition.
Four of the victims were taken to University Hospital in Newark. The others were taken to Mountainside Hospital in Glen Ridge and Clara Maass Medical Center in Belleville.
Police had the entire road blocked off Sunday in order to conduct an accident investigation. Witnesses told News 12 New Jersey that the intersection where the accident occurred is dangerous.
