School teams avoid Newark amid spike in violence
Parsippany High School is now the third school that won?t travel to Newark for a football game due to violence in the city.Some say it would be too dangerous to travel to Newark for a game. The latest incident of violence took place on Friday, when gunmen drove through the city and shot three people. Two were killed, another was wounded.Instead of accepting a forfeit, officials at Newark?s Weequahic High School have decided to travel more than 20 miles Thursday to play the "home game" in Parsippany. Scotch-Plains Fanwood and Cranford previously declined to travel to Newark for games. Two suspects have been arrested for the Friday shootings.
