Jersey City councilman blames arrest on alcoholism
Jersey City Councilman Steve Lipsky blames a weekend arrest for simple assault on his ongoing battle with alcoholism.
Lipsky, 44, was arrested at a Washington D.C. nightclub after allegedly urinating on patrons from a balcony.
"[I] decided to drink alcohol," he says. "This was my biggest mistake. You see I am an alcoholic, but I had not drunk for two years. I fell off the wagon. I slipped, crashed, burned. Whatever one might want to label it, I screwed up."
The councilman is also the founder of the CREATE charter school in Jersey City. He says he has no intention of resigning from his positions at the school or council.
Lipsky declined to discuss the specifics of the event, saying it is still under investigation.
