Jersey City firefighters sharpen water rescue skills

Members of the Jersey City Fire Department were all wet Thursday as they practiced water rescue maneuvers at the Newport Marina.
The department has been training throughout the week in small groups. The firefighters have been practicing mock rescues using rafts and a fire boat.
Thursday's exercises happened to coincide with a rainstorm. Battalion Chief Jim Bastan says it was a welcome addition.
"It's perfect," he says. "We don't know what kind of day we're going to get into when we do rescues. We don't choose our days. This is realistic."
