1 killed, 2 wounded in Newark high-rise shooting

(AP) - Newark police say three people have beenshot, one fatally, in a high-rise apartment building in the city. Police say one man was pronounced dead at the scene, a secondman was in serious condition with a chest wound and a third man wasin stable condition with a leg wound. The shooting occurred shortly before 10:15 p.m. Monday in a28-story building at 515 Elizabeth Ave., about three miles southof downtown. Police did not immediately release further details. Officers on foot and a police helicopter searched WeequahicPark, across the street from the building where the shootingoccurred, but police offered no immediate information on the numberof suspects being sought or a motive for the shootings.
