Sen. Menendez to announce help for NJ Transit

U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez will announce a major federal recovery plan that could help NJ Transit bridge a projected $300 million budget gap.

Sen. Menendez will be joined by Rep. Donald Payne and NJ Transit officials to unveil the plan Monday.

The plan would give NJ Transit $420 million in funding and could create about 4,000 jobs.

NJ Transit announced a proposal Friday to increase fares and cut service in an effort to reduce a growing budget deficit.
