2010 Census forms on the way

As the 23rd U.S. Census gets under way, organizers are making sure everyone in the Garden State gets counted.

Advance letters were mailed to 120 million households nationwide to let people know that census forms were on the way.

Residents are expected to receive their census forms between March 15-17. The population tally helps lawmakers determine how government funding is distributed.

Census officials say for every 1 percent increase in response, taxpayers save about $85 million in operational costs associated with sending census takers door to door to follow up.
