3 cops honored for stopping armed man

Three Branchburg police officers were awarded for their actions in stopping a man accused of being heavily armed.

Patrolmen Steven Cronce, Robert Farrigan and Robert Stober received the Exceptional Duty Award at the department's annual awards ceremony Monday.

In January, the officers responded to a suspicious person report at a Quick Chek. The suspect fled the scene and led police on a chase.

Police say Lloyd Woodson, 44, of Virginia, was arrested and found with a high-powered rifle and several magazines of ammunition under his jacket. Woodson allegedly stashed an arsenal of high-powered weapons, including a grenade launcher, at the Red Mill Inn on Route 22.

Woodson was indicted last month on multiple weapons charges.
