NYC to pay $657.5M to settle WTC health suits

New York City has reached a settlement with more than 10,000 first responders and Ground Zero workers who became ill after working at the former World Trade Center site following the Sept. 11 terror attacks.

The settlement could pay up to $657.5 million to workers, who would be paid based on the severity of their illnesses.

The payouts were announced by WTC Captive Insurance Co., established to cover the city and contractors working at the 9/11 site against potential legal action.

The plan will be heard by a judge Friday.
