Shore beaches slammed by storm

Strong winds and rain slammed the New Jersey coast last weekend, causing erosion at many beaches.

News 12 New Jersey's Chopper 12 flew over the Monmouth and Ocean county coastlines Tuesday to survey the damage.

Meteorologist James Gregorio says six- to eight-foot surf conditions will continue through Tuesday evening. Gregorio also says that scarfing, which is caused by powerful waves crashing along the beach, has created large cuts in the beaches.

Emergency crews are working on the beaches to shore up sections that experienced breaches in the dunes along the shore.
