Franklin man gets 5 years for growing marijuana

A man from Franklin claims that he was growing marijuana in order to treat his medical condition.

John Ray Wilson suffers from multiple sclerosis. He was arrested in 2008 for growing marijuana in his backyard and was sentenced Friday to five years in prison.

Wilson's father, Wallace Wilson, is angry. He says his son had no insurance and no other option for relief but to grow his own pot.

New Jersey is the 14th state to approve marijuana for medicinal purposes. The law is scheduled to go into effect in July. The law is considered the most restrictive of its kind and does not allow patients to grow their own.
