Brush fire consumes 540 acres in Barnegat

Fire officials say a massive brush fire that consumed over 540 acres of land has been contained.

The fire, which started Saturday afternoon, produced heavy smoke that forced nearly 60 people to briefly evacuate their homes. No injuries were reported as a result of the blaze.

N.J. Forest Fire Service Warden Bert Plante says the cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
