Newark PD bust yields $45K in drugs and guns

Newark police officers arrested two men Thursday in an undercover surveillance operation in the area of South 12th Street and 13th Avenue.

Cops say they recovered $45,000 worth of drugs, $2,000 in cash and several high-powered weapons.

Police say they observed Jimmy Yerovi, 27, leaving his residence on 12th Street carrying a brown paper bag and entering a vehicle parked in front of the home. Cops say, Jonathan Diaz, 22, approached the driver's side window, and Yerovi allegedly handed over two large Ziploc bags containing marijuana and mushrooms to Diaz.

Police moved in and apprehended the suspects after witnessing the interaction.

Newark police officials say Yerovi was charged with 16 various weapons and narcotics related offenses, while Diaz was charged with six narcotics related offenses.
