Newark cop investigated after alleged punching

The Newark Police Department is investigating an officer who was allegedly caught on tape punching a teenager.

A video captured by a security camera shows the officer punching 15-year-old Travis Rattray on Wednesday night. Rattray's family also claims he was pushed into a window and had hair ripped from his head.

According to Rattray, the officer asked him what he was doing and then frisked him. The officer found nothing on Rattray. The teen says the officer then punched him in the mouth and pulled out some of his dreadlocks.

According to the Newark Police Department, the officer involved in the incident has been suspended without pay, and two other officers have been reassigned to desk duty.
