U.S. to implement new 'smart' security checks
Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano announced that the Transportation Security Administration will begin implementing new, enhanced security measures to help mitigate future terrorist threats.
Secretary Napolitano said the new "flexible" measures will utilize real-time, threat-based intelligence along with multiple, random layers of security.
The new protocols will supersede the current secondary screening of all passengers from 14 nations identified as having ties with terrorists.
Screening was initially heightened following an attempted bombing of a flight to Detroit on Christmas Day.
