Officials: Cops coerced boys in child rape case
(AP) - The two youngest boys charged with the gangrape of a 7-year-old New Jersey girl last month may have beenpressured into confessing and implicating others in the case.
Two people with firsthand knowledge of the police interrogationstold The Associated Press on Wednesday that investigators pittedthe boys against each other during interviews.
Two men and three boys have been charged in the girl's rape. Thechild's 15-year-old stepsister has been charged with selling her tohave sex with as many as seven men and boys at a party.
Attorney Kevin Main and another official say police told eachboy that the other saw him in sex acts with the child.
Main represents one of the boys and has reviewed theinterrogations.
The official spoke only on condition of anonymity because theofficial fears retaliation from police.
