Man fatally shot by police in Paterson

A standoff situation ended with police fatally shooting a man in Paterson Friday night.

Very limited information is being released regarding the shooting because of police involvement.

The Passaic County prosecutor confirms the man barricaded himself inside his home before 5 p.m. The situation escalated once police arrived and ended with a man being shot dead by officers, according to authorities.

News 12 New Jersey saw the SWAT team on the scene as well as police from Paterson, the Passaic County Sheriffs Department and other agencies.

The shooting occurred at 25 Street and 9th Avenue in Paterson.
