2nd man charged in slaying of elderly NJ man

(AP) - Police in northern New Jersey havearrested a second person in the beating and strangulation death ofa 91-year-old man.

Felony murder, murder, robbery and weapons charges were filedagainst Shaun Woodson, 24, of East Orange, acting Essex CountyProsecutor Robert Laurino announced yesterday.

Woodson was arrested Friday, the same day similar charges wereannounced against Reginald Anthony of East Orange. Anthony was apart-time chauffeur for Robert Nevius, whose body was foundThursday morning in his Essex Fells home after a friend told policehe was unable to contact Nevius and asked police to check on him.

Laurino said Nevius struggled with his assailants, whoauthorities say stole some jewelry from the victim's home. Anautopsy determined Nevius died from blunt force trauma,strangulation and a stab wound to the neck.

The attack occurred hours after Anthony had driven the victim'swife, Janet, to a co-op apartment the couple owned in New YorkCity, Laurino said. Anthony apparently was substituting for hisaunt, who has been the regular chauffeur for the Neviuses for 12years.

Both suspects, who authorities say are friends, were being heldSaturday in the county jail. Woodson's bail was set at $1.5 millionand Anthony's was $1 million. Laurino did not know if eithersuspect had an attorney.

Each could face 30 years to life in prison if convicted on allcharges.
