Police: Man shot at CVS is corrections officer

(AP) - A corrections officer remains hospitalized after being shot in the face by police during an apparent burglary at a central New Jersey pharmacy.

Brick police responded to the store around 6:30 a.m. Saturdayafter an alarm there was activated and found 30-year-old townshipresident Ralph Stoia III inside, said Mike Mohel, deputy chief ofthe Ocean County Prosecutor's Office.

Stoia pointed a .40-caliber pistol at police, but apparentlydidn't fire it before being shot once by an officer, Mohel said.Stoia was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center inNeptune, where he is in critical but stable condition.

Stoia, a corrections officer at the Garden State YouthCorrectional Facility in Yardville for about two years, facesseveral charges, including armed burglary and weapons offenses.
