Old Glory taken down in Parsippany

An overpass filled with flags commemorating the lives lost on 9/11 was emptied recently.

The flags flying on the Fox Hill Road overpass that crosses Route 80 were taken down by the Department of Transportation, according to John Mola, of Mountain Lakes.

"The DOT came up here because I got a call on my way over here that they got a complaint that the flags were on the bridge," says Mola. "So after nine years and seven months we were told that now, we have to have a permit to fly these flags back on the bridge again."

The Department of Transportation says that there is a policy that prohibits this kind of display. They say they decided to allow it after the September 11th attacks.

The flags in question were on poles that elevated them even higher than the safety fence.
