Budget hearings continue in Trenton

New Jersey Education Commissioner Bret Schundler testified before lawmakers during budget hearings today in Trenton.

Schundler urged lawmakers to pass legislation that would help school districts control costs through contract negotiations, contributions to health care and pension reform. He says that without these changes, the problems of the past will continue in the future.

Schundler says that tax hikes would mean that lawmakers wouldn't get re-elected and that the people of New Jersey do not want tax hikes based on the results of school elections last week.
