18 gang members taken down in sting

Attorney General Paula T. Dow, state police and corrections officials announced charges against 18 members and associates of the violent Nine Trey Headbusters set of the Bloods street gang yesterday.

Five people were captured, and five more are being sought. Charges were filed against eight more already in prison.

Ashley Cupparo, 22, of Lindenwold, Anthony Anderson, 22, Christopher Anderson, 18, Larry Garretson, 31, and Darryl Gilbert, 39, all of Newark, were captured in yesterday's raid.

The arrests were the result of an investigation launched in 2007 that focused on the criminal activities of Michael Anderson. Authorities identified Anderson as the head of the Nine Trey Headbusters. Investigators say Anderson led the dangerous street gang from behind prison walls at the New Jersey State Prison in Trenton.

The operation led to several other investigations where police were able to prevent crimes from being carried out by gang members.
