Death in Palisades Park fire ruled homicide

The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office released a statement saying the early morning blaze in Palisades Park has been ruled an arson.

Police and firefighters responded to call reporting the smell of smoke and a possible fire at 261 12th St. around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday. Responders arrived to find the home fully engulfed in flames.

After the stubborn fire was extinguished, firefighters found a badly burned body inside the home. Authorities later identified the body as 69-year old Dolores Alliotts.

The Bergen County Medical Examiner's Office later determined that Alliotts had been stabbed multiple times.

Authorities say the fire is considered arson as a means to cover up the evidence of a homicide.

Authorities are still investigating both the arson and homicide.
