Survivor testifies in Newark schoolyard slayings

The woman who was the sole survivor of the brutal schoolyard killings in Newark testified in court today.

Natasha Aeriel survived the attacks after she was allegedly sexually molested, stabbed and shot. Aeriel described the alleged attack by six men at Mount Vernon Elementary School in August 2007.

Rodolfo Godinez is the first of the six defendants to go to trial in the killings of Dashon Harvey, Iofemi Hightower and Terrance Aeriel.

Godinez has pleaded not guilty to murder, attempted murder, robbery, conspiracy and weapons charges. Aeriel said in her testimony that Godinez was not the person who shot her, but she did think that he acted as a ringleader in the alleged incident.

The defense spent the afternoon trying to raise doubts about Aeriel's ability to clearly remember events of that night due to how chaotic it was and because of her injuries.

AP wire services contributed to this report.
