Suspect on the run shuts down part of Newark

A carjacking suspect disappeared into a Newark apartment earlier today, causing a section of the city?s Central Ward to be shut down for hours.

An armed carjacker was seen running into Betty Shabazz Apartments. Police closed in on the apartment complex as well as an area business, but the suspect was gone.

News 12 New Jersey spoke to residents and business owners in the community. Representatives from the Newark Housing Authority would not comment on camera and several people inside the apartment would not come to the door.
