An alleged case of dirty politics in Linden
A Linden city councilman made a promise, which could be illegal, or a serious case of dirty politics. It's part of a Kane in Your Corner investigation.
Rhashonna Cosby-Hurling is running for city council in Linden. Her opponent, Gene Davis, a long-time councilman approached her at a political event inside the Knights of Columbus and offered to make a deal.
Davis said that if Cosby-Hurling dropped out of the race, mayoral favorite Bob Bunk would resign from office in the next three years, Davis would become Mayor, and he would appoint Hurling to his council seat. This conversation made Cosby-Hurling so uncomfortable that she recorded it on her cell phone. ?I am willing, and I'm a man of my word, to stand behind you and give you the seat,? Davis can be heard saying. ?That's my right hand to God on my grandchildren.?
This conversation made Cosby-Hurling so uncomfortable that she recorded it on her cell phone.
Davis claims it wasn't a bribe. He says his comments should not have been taken seriously, and he?d ?had a few drinks? when he made them.
