Belmar bakery closed again due to violations

Freedman's Bakery in Belmar has been closed again over health and sanitation violations.

State and county officials requested the voluntary closure of the bakery on Main Street after an inspection Thursday.

Officials say the owners have not fixed a cockroach and mice problem. They also say that unsanitary equipment, dirty work areas, a leaking roof, missing ceiling tiles, and holes in walls of the bakery need to be corrected.

The bakery also sells baked goods to stores, restaurants and other bakeries throughout Monmouth County.

The owners are due in court later this month over the violations.
