NJ carnival shooting leaves 2 injured

(AP) - A gunman who opened fire at a crowdedcarnival in northern New Jersey wounded a man before being shot andwounded himself by a police officer.

It was not immediately clear why the gunman, whose name was notdisclosed, fired several rounds into the crowd of about 1,500people in Bloomfield on Friday night.

His handgun was recovered at the scene, authorities said, and hewas expected to face aggravated assault and weapons charges.

Anthony Ambrose, chief of detectives for the Essex CountyProsecutor's Office, said the shooting occurred around 10:15 p.m.,causing crowd members to flee in panic. One bullet struck a man inthe arm, and a Bloomfield police officer then shot the gunman oncein the torso.

Both men were hospitalized but were expected to recover, Ambrosesaid.
