Officials inspect Jersey shore rentals

(AP) - Officials say dead batteries in smokedetectors are the most common violation in rental properties alongthe Jersey shore.

Stone Harbor officials found one in four of the Cape May Countytown's 807 rental homes had some type of violation this year.

Officials say many batteries needed to be replaced because ofpower failures over the winter.

Officials decided to conduct the inspections after a Januaryfire in which firefighters found six beds in an attic. No one wasinjured.
